Sophie Tannenbaum

Title: Springboard Innovation Fellow

Originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Sophie moved across the state to attend the University of Pittsburgh where she became a resident assistant; joined a Bollywood dance team; studied archaeology in Sicily; did research on medical systems in the Ecuadorian Amazon; and began bouldering at the local rock-climbing gym. She graduated in 2019 with degrees in cultural anthropology and social work, with concentrations in child welfare, psychology, and globalization. Becoming President of Pittsburgh Hillel’s Tzedek Coalition made her realize her ability to integrate her passions of social justice and relationship-building with her Jewish identity. In her free time, she can be found listening to podcasts, talking about her chickens, and searching for the best local coffee shop. Sophie is thrilled to dive deeper into her passions with the Jewish students of Penn State.
