The Gutterman Family Center for Jewish Life

Penn State Hillel building new home in downtown State College

Our new building, the Gutterman Family Center for Jewish Life, has completed construction and hosted almost 100 students for Sederim this Spring, 2022!! The building will encourage the growth of a vibrant, varied and cohesive Jewish community beyond what we have accomplished in our current location. We are thankful for the generosity of Bernard ’51 z’’l and Nancy ’52 Gutterman and David N. Pincus ’48 z”l and many others who had the vision to make this a reality. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help ensure that future generations of Jewish young adults will have a Jewish home away from home at Penn State, one that teaches them how to make Judaism a central part of their adult lives, as it has been for us.” — Bernard ’51 and Nancy ’52 Gutterman

This year, we kick off our Journey To Excellence campaign. We begin with our Gutterman Center for Jewish Life, and now shift our focus to turning our new house into a Jewish home for our students with a goal of $15 million raised to ensure a robust Jewish experience for our future Nittany Lions. By supporting our campaign, you enable Penn State Hillel to build a sustainable future by guaranteeing the existence of leadership experiences, Jewish learning opportunities like the Jewish Learning Fellowship and Shabbat and holiday services, and Israel-related programming like trips to Israel and celebrations of Israel on campus.

Our Journey to Excellence campaign offers a variety of ways to leave a strong legacy at Penn State Hillel. Contact Stefanie Tapper to discuss naming a space, program or position that will impact thousands of current and future Jewish students at Penn State.
